The City of Lisburn is one of the most popular investment locations in N.Ireland.  Impressive new retail, business and capital developments and a range of opportunity sites identified throughout the city, reflect investor confidence and confirm the City’s strategic positioning as the centre for regional growth in Northern Ireland.

The City Centre has seen extensive redevelopment and new investment in the retail sector.

Potential Investment

  • John Lewis- Lisburn City Council is supporting the new planning application for the Sprucefield Development, which will bring John Lewis as Anchor Tenant to the City. This development will potentially create over 2000 jobs and an investment of £150 million.

Investment Opportunities

  • Maze- 360-acre Maze/Long Kesh site is to be redeveloped
  • Blaris- A major development plan for the Blaris area, which could see the biggest ever development - £250 million - in the city over the next ten years. The development includes plans for some two million square feet of business and commercial uses with potential to accommodate over 4000 new jobs, as well as the potential to provide up to 3000 new houses.
  • Lisburn City Centre Masterplan- It is estimated that the cumulative effect of the masterplan could be in the order of £28 million additional GVA per annum. The masterplan proposes the addition of 200 hotel rooms across two developments, which could potentially generate £4 million visitor spend per year. It is estimated that the Masterplan will create 2800 gross jobs and 1900 net jobs.
  • The River Lagan- a unique asset extending right through the city, offers a diverse portfolio of investment opportunities as part of an exciting river regeneration scheme.

Inward Investment

July 2008- Drumbo Park

A total of 120 new jobs were created with the opening of a greyhound stadium at Drumbo Park near Lambeg. The venture is the result of a £3m investment by local businessman John McCollum and his business partners Michael McAdam and Tommy Anderson.

September 2008- New Bus Centre

A new £2.8m bus station was opened in Lisburn in 2008. The station, which was partly financed by the EU, was the latest investment by Translink. Substantial investment between 2003-2007 has resulted in nearly 940 new buses. Between 2008-2011 a further £36million will be invested.

October 2009- Premier Inn

Lisburn's new hotel has officially opened on the Hillsborough Road, creating 50 full and part-time positions. The 60 bed hotel, which also boasts an adjoining 200 seat family restaurant and onsite carpark, represents a £5 million investment for the area.

December 2009- Regeneration Scheme

A £100m regeneration scheme in Lisburn was approved in December 2009.

The development will transform the former Barbour textiles factory providing 600 new homes, offices and light industrial units. The plans also include a leisure complex with a museum focusing on the history of the linen industry, while a riverside bar/restaurant, a gym, crèche, café and retail space are also planned. The existing canal and river bridges will be restored.

May 2010- General Electric

A major electrical manufacturing firm in Lisburn has created over 100 jobs, which will generate around £2.5m in annual salaries, as part of a multi-million pound investment by one of the world’s largest companies. US conglomerate General Electric’s (GE) green energy arm yesterday announced plans to expand its Northern Ireland business Kelman Ltd with backing from Invest NI.

September 2010- Coca Cola

Lisburn's £93.5m state-of-the art Coca-Cola manufacturing facility opened in September 2010, creating 600 jobs.

The company's investment of £53 million will contribute significantly to both the local and regional economies and to the local employment level.
As part of the construction, Coca-Cola's investment included infrastructure works to improve the transportation linkages to this new state of the art facility.

2010- Dobbies Garden World

Dobbies Garden World was opened in Lisburn, with an investment worth £8.6million and the creation of 120 jobs.
