In September 2010, the Lisburn City Centre Masterplan was launched, which aims to transform the physical, social and economic fabric of the city. The proposals laid out in the Masterplan include:
1. Rejuvenation of the historic Market Square as the heart of the City Centre;
2. Investing in a high quality public realm to support private investment in the City Centre;
3. Reconnection of the City Centre with the River Lagan
4. Creation of a portfolio of development opportunity sites to help attract inward investment.
